It is that time of year for a lot of people in the  Northern Hemisphere to switch their cycling wardrobe to include warmer, more weather resistant attire. One of the most important things when choosing what to buy for winter cycling is considering the breathability of the clothing you choose. The two items we will introduce below are warm, breathable and great for cold weather riding – whether you are on snow or not. Adidas Outdoor is a long-standing entity of the Adidas Group which includes all Adidas product lines. Adidas Outdoor was launched abroad in 2008 and is now the 4th largest outdoor footwear and apparel brand on a global scale. More recently, in 2012, Adidas launched in the United States with a focus on small specialty stores and a mission to invest back into the outdoor community. They strive to develop products that are useful for all outdoor disciplines, without focusing on just one. This allows you to wear their gear in many scenarios without the need to buy more products.

The Xperior Pant

adidas outdoorIt is true to say that you can wear pretty much anything while cycling. However, while you may be able to get by wearing anything, you will be much happier with the proper clothing. The Xperior pant by Adidas Outdoor is designed for comfort and fashion, without sacrificing superior functionality. These pants are constructed specifically for winter training. Adidas utilized their Windstopper Soft Shell fabric on the front panels of the pants to protect from wind, light rain and snow, and their Functional Fleece on the upper back side of the pant to allow for the highest breathability and formation to your body. The Xperior is equipped with side leg zippers to accommodate any size footwear you may wear while winter cycling. Other highlights include a soft and comfortable adjustable waistband, two zippered side pockets and reflective elements. The intentional design of these pants allows you to ride without feeling constricted, clammy, or bunched. Pair these pants with chamois and a pair of light weight long underwear for your next fat bike ride and you are set for temps down to the single digits. They come in both women’s and men’s specific fit.

The Terrex Stockhorn Fleece

adidas outdoorI don’t know about you, but on the weekends I am all about being comfortable. The Terrex Stockhorn Fleece from Adidas Outdoor has not only filled a void in my winter cycling attire, but has become a go-to every day layer for all activities. Terrex is Adidas Outdoors performance series specifically designed for outdoor athletes. adidas outdoorThe Stockhorn Fleece is built for performance and versatility. They use their Pontetorto Technostretch fabric which is useful for a body hugging and comfortable fit. The Activated Carbon Fleece inner layer uses a grid-structure to provide durable and moisture-wicking insulation. The fit is true to size, has an adjustable hem in case you want to cinch it down, and has a total of three zippered pockets – two hand pockets and a sleeve pocket. The cherry on top? The Stockhorn Fleece comes complete with what I call “hand panties” or thumb holes to most. This layer works perfectly under a lightweight vest or down jacket, as well as layered over your long underwear. Stuff this piece in your frame bag while out for a fat bike ride, and be happy and warm as the sun sets behind the ridge during your descent to the trail head. This comes in both women’s and men’s specific fit. Adidas Outdoor is making a statement with their line of technical gear for outdoor athletes. Stay tuned for long-term reviews of the above products, and much more from Adidas Outdoor.
