The fourth annual Trans North Georgia mountain bike adventure will take off this Saturday, August 23rd at 8:00 am EST. The TNGA is a 350 mile self supported point to point bikepacking route that flows through the northern mountains of Georgia, boasting over 56,000 feet of climbing. The race begins at the South Carolina border and finishes near the Alabama border just west of Rome, Georgia.

This year, the race has met it’s capacity and was even on a wait list for a while. 70+ riders will show up Saturday morning to take on this beautiful adventure. The TNGA is a great way to explore everything that the north Georgia mountains have to offer, including some great vistas, both flowy and rugged singletrack, loads of B grade forest roads, and some pavement. However, do not be fooled, the TNGA is no easy feat.

Eddie O’Dea smashed his own record last year by finishing in under 2 days to maintain the men’s record at 1:15:03 (39 hours and 3 minutes). He had previously held the record in 2011 with a time of 2 days and 34 minutes –  Shey Lindner and Jason Murrell tied for first place in 2012 with the exact same time as Eddie’s 2011 record.  Eddie is not racing this year. He will be watching the race from the couch, so it will be interesting to see if someone threatens his record. The women’s record was also taken by Lisa Randall last year with an impressive sub two day finish time of 1:21:59 (45 hours 59 minutes). The Trans North Georgia mountain bike adventure will be an exciting one to follow. Keep up with the racer locations at Trackleaders.com.  MTBCast will be stationed at the Mulberry Gap Mountain Bike Get-away resupply point which is just over half way on the route. Keep up with the call-in’s at MTBCast. Good luck to all of the racers on this epic adventure. Stay tuned for our exclusive race report to follow!
