Tony Southwell decided to tour the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route this summer for the CBC “Own Summer” challenge. Tony departed a week after the grand depart which allowed him to miss most of the horrible weather.  His journey took over 50 days with plenty of up’s and down’s. He finally made it to Antelope Wells, NM where he reconnected with his girlfriend in a big way.

What bike did he ride? It looks like a Surly ECR.

  2. Boy, I’m slow to respond. Hahahahaha. But then I didn’t know my video was posted here. My bike is a Krampus….one of the first frames released. I went with a rohloff hub like in the link Wayne posted above. The only changes from that link were the addition of the KRAMPUS fork with anything cage mounts, a carver titanium post with sella anatomica seat ( a lifesaver combo), I switched to BB7 brakes for the trip and the extra chunky version of the grips in the link. Also I used flat pedals with POWER STRAPS so I could use light hiking shoes. Everything was flawless. I’d use the same set up again for this trip even if I was to race it. Maybe switch to carbon fork since racing I would carry less. 🙂 Cheers.
