Alpkit put together a fantastic short film that shares the story of James Knowles. Despite some first-hand tragedy, James took a horrible situation and made the best of it. Building a bothy in memory of his friend, Murray Fleming, who was killed on a bike trip. James started riding, and riding strong. “It was incredible to be a nobody, and beat everybody,” he says as his race career progressed. Like almost everything, change is inevitable, and James fell out of touch with racing and focused his time on his music. The take away here is that racing is great, but not the most important thing, yet there is always time for a ride or even a trip, especially one including bikepacking.
