The 2017 Tour Divide grand depart, like every year, starts the second Friday in June. For many, arriving in Banff it’s the last big hurdle before taking off on the journey of a lifetime. In big part to the participants, we compiled a list of rigs along with a brief kit list. Good Luck to all the racers in this year’s Tour Divide. It’s a life changing experience that you will never forget.

Seems each year my bags get smaller and my tires wider. I have a mix of Porcelain Rocket, Oveja Negra and Revelate Bags, and left out the frame bag this time around to save a bit more weight. Hoping to make it up to Banff by July 4th and looking forward to seeing everyone out on the route!

2016 Jones Plus 25” in what I call “Shrek Green” with Sram 2×11, Jones C-Rims, Schmidt Son dyno and K-lite electrics.  It’s fitted with a custom Jones frame bag, handlebar loop bag and truss fork bags all made by Revelate for Jeff Jones.  Also used are Revelate Terrapin seat bag, gas tank and mountain feed bags.  My front roll and accessory bag are Ortlieb.  Since this photo I have swapped out tires to 29×3.0 Maxxis Chronicles, Blackburn Outpost Cargo cages on the seat stays and added a Salsa Anything HD cage on the downtube.  Its ready to carry anything…hopefully ME to Antelope Wells NM!

Ty Domin – 37 –  Melbourne, AustraliaCustom Triton SS 27+ Ti frame with PMW yoke and dropouts, custom Waltworks fork with 10 waterbottle bosses because Walt loves installing them. The ability to attach bottles and Anything Cages to the fork means I no longer need a bar roll which is great for handling.  I love Alpkit stuff and am using their Confucius bars for extra hand positions and equipment fitting positions, as well as their custom frame bag, fuel pod and seat bag held securely in place with the PDW Bindle Rack. Ortlieb bar bag, fuel pod and RD Feed bags are almost empty and ready for food and quick access items on the go.

Ko Saynourath – 40 – Wheat Ridge, Colorado29er Bamboo frame is made by myself.  Specialized Chisel carbon fork.  Drivetrain is all Shimano XT  3×10 with the exception of SLX shifters.  Brakes are Avid BB7s with 203mm rotors.  Stans ZTR 355 wheels with Maxxis Aspen tires.  Frame bag and top tube bag are Blackburn Outpost, Roswheel saddle and top tube bag, and handlebar bag is generic ebay special 10 liter dry bag strapped on with used road bike tubes.  My goal (and time allotment is 21 days) but looks like there’s gonna be an extra amount of hiking this year due to all the snow this winter.  Oh, and did I mention my longest ride ever and only century before this is 115 miles at sea leave on pavement with no climbs.  My only training this spring for this is commuting to work arouind 50-75 miles/week and only a handful of mtb rides.  To hit my goal I need to average approximately 130 miles/day.  No pressure though(roll eyes).  Oh well.  Such is life of a busy dad.  I gotta do what I gotta do when any chance I can get to do what I love most (besides my family of course).  I say just go for it!!

Front hub Son28′ thru axle, rear hub CK ISO 135 mm QR.  Maxxis Ikon 2.2 front and rear, set up tubeless (150 ml of Stans each).  Klite light and switch, Sinewave converter to USB battery cache (two Cygnet 6000 mAh – these don’t thru-charge, so I’ll charge one whilst draining the other etc).  Navigation  Etrex30+ and Garmin 520 backup.  Front and rear bags Revelate (sweetroll, front bag, two feedbags, and Terrapin).  Frame bags all Bike Bag Dude.  Bladder 4L MSR Dromedary.  Probably starting a bit heavy (21 kg sans food/water), with 3.5 Kg backpack (second bladder etc), but I figure I can ditch XS as I go.  Looking fwd to some adventure!

Custom areo bars and electronics set up by the gents at Gretna Bike (Thanks Guys). I will be riding to promote Boy Scouts of America. My goal is to not be eaten by a bear and finish in under 20 days, no sleeping in motels, and to ride the Great basin alone. None of this trip would be possible if not for my wife….”And I U”

She’s a Rocky Mountain Instinct dressed mostly with revelate bags, a topeak framebag and a blackburn seatbag. She’s a bit fat at 55 pounds with no water and no food but with her dual suspension and a thudbuster seatpost she’s quite a comfortable ride.

Geof Blance & Denise Thorne – 106 combined age – Otago, New ZealandMuurtle Tuurtle is a 18 year old steel tandem that has had a face lift and is now running 29er with a Salsa fork, Wheelworks custom built wheels and 203 disks. Bags are a mix, with the frame bags from Nuclear Sunrise Bagworks and the others by Revelate and Apidura. Murrtle loves sand, sun and mud and is looking forward to meeting everyone in Banff.

After riding TD2015 on a Fargo Ti, I opted to go with a Cutthroat for TD2016. The only changes from the stock build was a front wheel with a SON Dyno hub (from the Fargo) Built on a Stan’s Flow rim. Joe at JPaks has custom made the frame bag and snack bag for the bike which are both direct mounted to the frame. I’m using a Revelate Terrapin bag and Feed Bags for carrying clothing, food and parts. Seat To Summit E-Vent on the handlebars for sleep system.
